The GFDF Story

Jammits one and only chef / baker, Renée, is delighted to be offering a full range of GF & DF adaptations. The experimentation started over 10 years ago, before GF and DF were much of ‘a thing’. The only thing you’d find in a café, if anything, was that orange almond cake – if you know, you know. This was very disappointing for Renee’s mother (Sue) – a foodie, a regular supporter of the café industry,  and, as it turned out, an increasingly intolerant to gluten and dairy individual.
This set forth a great challenge for Renee, who was a budding café chef at the time, to develop gluten-free and dairy-free baking that wasn’t shit. Excuse the language, but it really was in the early days of the rise of intolerances.

The Offering

Everything on the menu, unless specifically mentioned, can come GF and/or DF. This must be requested at the time of ordering.

It is essential to mention any other food sensitivities at this time too and understand that with all allergens and allergen-free labelled food, there is always a minimal risk of traces being present (see The Disclaimer below for more info).

  • Gluten-free: Jammit uses their own nut-free GF flour blend that has been specially developed over the years to mimic the properties of a standard wheat flour in baking. The result is GF baking that is just as luscious as regular baking most gluten eaters wouldn’t even notice! 😉

  • Dairy-free adaptations are usually made with oil if required (currently using cold-pressed rapeseed oil from The Good Oil). Most of the cake menu is naturally dairy-free, aside from the standard buttercream – this has been quite the journey to find a good substitute, without the scary ingredients commonly found in DF ‘butters’! Jammit proudly uses Vutter to make beautiful DF buttercream.

  • Vegan / Egg-free: There are a few options that can be made vegan friendly – Fruit pies and the chocolate cake. It is always worth checking in on this as some seasonal cake recipes may be more adaptable than the core range. There is likely to be an extra charge for vegan/egg free orders – this will be discussed at the time of individual queries.

  • Other dietary requests are always welcome. Jammit strives to accommodate and create gorgeous options for everyone! These would be considered custom orders and would be charged on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that even though great care is taken when making goods omitting allergens, I cannot guarantee there to be no traces of such.

The production site processes many common allergens, including, but not limited to: dairy, egg, peanuts, sesame, soy, nuts & gluten.
